So here we are. This is our country. So now that it has sunk in for a few hours, I can safely say I have still not fully allowed it to hit me. I know I am slightly overreacting, but seeing the General Election put Trump as President and watch both the Senate and the House stay Red… is TERRIFYING… Not everyone will agree in some of my pessimism. But I will say, that in the end, I cannot get myself to trust Republicans to “regulate” themselves. We’re asking a group of Politicians who prove consistently that they will always put the priorities of the top 1% above all else. Who will disregard the Constitution at any length to achieve control of women, minorities and any faith not in Christianity. The Party that will DENY facts and science to further their agenda. Willing to LIE to the American people against the peoples’ own interest. That is the place we are currently. Starting in 2017 we will have all 3 branches of government control by Conservatives. We can expect a ferocious conservative justice to be put up by Trump. Then potentially 1 or 2 more after that in just 4 years. Could spell a conservative Supreme Court for the next 30 years. Progress will probably come to a halt from our Federal Government. So here we are.
On the eve of the 2016 Election I write this post as a last effort to help people understand what tomorrow may mean for our future. I apologize for the length but want those out there, maybe still on the fence, or those out there supporting Donald Trump.
I decided I wanted to have a post after the first night of the DNC in Philly. This was driven by some of the speeches and actions held at the convention yesterday. The start of this week long event was filled with lots of controversy. First the reveal of the emails from the DNC who, as we all expected, had been exchanging emails and plans to figure out ways to derail Bernie Sanders campaign. This release of over 20,000 emails contained some very disgusting tactics that I thought, not even the most corrupt of the Democrats would never consider. But needless to say I was wrong. There was talks about how they would not talk with Bernie supporters, for risk of "punching them in the face", or the idea they may want to bring his faith into question to try to win states. Not much about the idea that even all the way at the top, Debbie Wasserman Schultz(DWS) herself was in on the Bernie trash-talk. The DNC had done as much as they could, from scheduling debates on nights to hide Bernie, or to the voter suppression tactics they resorted to. To be fair, these emails do Not confirm those malicious attacks, but their obvious distaste for 1 particular candidate was VERY apparent. I will say everyone can have their opinions, but it is LITERALLY the entire purpose of the DNC to be an objective entity that just lets the people decide on candidates. That was obviously discarded. Needless to say, there was backlash from Bernie supporters at the convention.
Last week the RNC took place in Cleveland, OH. It was filled with controversy from the very beginning. The fact that so many high standing Republicans did not even attend the event is evidence of the dysfunction. The Bush’s did not attend. Only the last 2 Republican Presidents ever… There was also Senator Sasse who went to say he would not attend, and would instead take his children to watch some dumpster fires across the state; which he stated he’d find more popular than the candidates. Or how about another candidate Kasich. He only lives just 2 hours away from the conference, he also decided he was not going to attend. This is a party that is clearly divided. The whole conference did not get much better.
It is no news to anyone reading this I have been a supporter for Bernie Sanders. His platform of real progressive policies that wants the government to finally start working for the people instead of the rich and corporations, has been an inspiration to this country. This was not the year to make the drastic push in progressive values, though. This movement did do something though. The revolution may not have the leader to lead the most powerful position in the world, but it did create MILLIONS of individuals who now remember/formed the ideals they want from our country. They will be motivated by this year. Bernie stood for more than just being President, something I think was COMMONLY overlooked by people in both the media and members supporting Hilary. They believed it was a movement of thinking too big and nothing beyond those ideas and no way to make it happen. They were/are wrong.
This post will be about some of the Irony around the current Democratic Party primary. I have been outspoken when it comes to the counting of Superdelegates in this election season. The media has been using the numbers to boost up Hillary Clinton since the beginning. To give them some credit, they didn’t just guess how many people may support her, they counted the people who were all willing to outwardly say they are going to support Hillary, because they want a favor in return if she gets elected. It was also very likely she would have been the nominee and so it is easy to hitch your wagon to the “favorite.” It is even easier, because saying that you will vote for her doesn’t mean you Have to. That is right, Superdelegates have not voted yet, and still will not vote until the Convention in JULY! That means the “word” of these people means NOTHING… What it did though, was allow the media to spread a FALSE sense that she already had ~500 delegates towards the nomination. This is truly and emphatically false.
Wish I didn't have to start so many posts recently like but here I go again. I apologize for the time between posts. For those outside my Facebook and inner circle may not know, I have recently purchased a home with Hannah. We are very excited and have been VERY busy trying to get the whole process completed and then now unpacking and setting up our new home. I thank you for those who have stuck around to hear more ramblings of a crazy guy like myself. Now to the real point of the post.
I had a brief discussion about the Bernie or Bust phenomenon on the good ole Facebook the other week. It prompted me to start really thinking about this change and what it really represents. This new idea behind only supporting Bernie and not voting for Hilary if she wins the nomination is something I both admire and fear. There has been both a lot of commentary, and in some ways not enough commentary about the Email Scandal over Hillary Clinton’s head at the moment. The FBI has been investigating her and the private server she was using to transfer and work on confidential information on this unsecured server. This would be classified as illegal if this was done with full knowledge of the level of confidentiality and knew people receiving this information were not cleared to do so, and if this server was known to not be a secure one from outside forces wanting access to this information. This type of issue will be tough to prove. There is a reason it has been hushed by both the Democratic Party and Hillary’s Campaign. Even Bernie Sanders earlier in this campaign said it was a stupid thing to talk about until the facts come out. Now we don’t know much still at this point, but it seems we may be close to that time. Why does this matter? Well let’s dive a little deeper into the issue, and what some of MY concerns are.
With the news this week of Donald Trump being the last GOP candidate standing, we start the obvious and sudden turn to Center. We have, and will continue seeing a significant shift to the Center from Hilary as it gets closer to her being the nominee, unless some miracle happens with Bernie. Or of course if the FBI decides to actually press charges against her. An issue that may hand over the General Election to Donald Trump if it happens after the DNC decides the nominee. That is a fear I hope does not happen. Yes I am upset in my head about the Mainstream media and Hillary supporters screaming she is more electable and what the ramifications might now be if she is charged. It won’t deter her already strong blind following, but the independents and true left progressives like myself, will be VERY upset and many will either switch votes or just not vote at all, which always favors the GOP. But I digress… Assuming nothing crazy like those things happen, it seems the idea of a Trump/Clinton election is at hand. Both have started to pander for those independents and Center people votes.
This post will not be received well by some of the people I know. My frustration at the system that has been doing whatever it can to keep a Candidate like Bernie Sanders from being noticed, has been expressed in this blog multiple times before. This is different, this goes beyond the obvious disdain the Democratic Party and Media has for a specific candidate, but how willing they are to give into the Money and show their bias. These are the issues we yell about the Republicans for, the idea that they are willing abandon morals and beliefs to advance their career and make money. It has been obvious to us all that the Republicans allow that money from Oil/Gas companies to have these politicians LITERALLY deny facts, such as Global Climate Change. The problem is the Democratic Party has decided to adopt some of these types of ideas and move away from caring about the average person.
