Wish I didn't have to start so many posts recently like but here I go again. I apologize for the time between posts. For those outside my Facebook and inner circle may not know, I have recently purchased a home with Hannah. We are very excited and have been VERY busy trying to get the whole process completed and then now unpacking and setting up our new home. I thank you for those who have stuck around to hear more ramblings of a crazy guy like myself. Now to the real point of the post.
I had a brief discussion about the Bernie or Bust phenomenon on the good ole Facebook the other week. It prompted me to start really thinking about this change and what it really represents. This new idea behind only supporting Bernie and not voting for Hilary if she wins the nomination is something I both admire and fear.

I obviously admire the passion these young people are bringing to their involvement in politics. This movement and ideology is about not settling. It is about wanting to vote for someone who cares about their interests and policies that the people want to support. This goes beyond being just a specific party member. It is about supporting an individual who speaks on behalf of the people who follow them. I do admire this idea. I want, and feel, that we should have the gumption to stand up for the policies and ideas that we want as individuals. We should feel comfortable voting for the person who we feel is best to push the plans that we want. People should also feel comfortable for sticking with it and not allowing other people to convince them they are wrong. I want everyone to know I am not using this post to attack Hilary, just point out the reasons she is making this movement happen.
I also find this as somewhat an obvious conclusion to the way this particular election has gone in the Democratic Primary. The establishment and media has been shoving one candidate down our throats without any care or respect to the person we want to support. That will, and has, had the understandable reaction of people digging in their heels more. When people are so certain to make you feel like you need to conform, it should not be surprising that people will stand up against that. Those are issue just from the media and DNC. Now let’s look into how Hilary has been trying to interact with the people who may be prone to this movement. She has been SUPER dismissive whenever she is confronted by young individuals that challenge her. Look at some of the YouTube videos of her demeaning attitude towards the Greenpeace woman that confronted her about the money she was taking from the Oil companies. Look at her attitude towards the young African American woman that was standing up to her, when Hilary responded with a SUPER belittling “well you do it then” (yes paraphrasing). It was HER who actually went onto TV and told the world she “Pities” the young people. She claimed we cannot think for ourselves. Her campaign has been quick to label anyone not supporting her as Racist, and sexist. Calling Bernie’s supporters as Bernie Bros… Funny considering she used the EXACT SAME tactic against Obama, “Obama Boys.”
She has been making it very clear from the beginning that she does not need, or care to have the votes of people who weren’t her supporters from the beginning. She has barely moved on her policies to help bridge a gap to the people she doesn’t agree with. She is doing nothing out in the public to try to give Bernie supporters a reason to still vote for her in November, if everything continues as to her/DNC plans. The biggest thing she is even doing, to try to get people who don’t agree with most of her stances on economic and environmental policies, is to say “I’m better than Trump.” Now is she right? ABSOLUTELY! But is this the country we live in now? To vote for the lesser of 2 evils. Now that may seem harsh, and I wish I had a better grasp of vocabulary to try better, but it is a fair assessment. I have NO desire to continue our government policies that Hilary stands for. She has only a few number of things I would feel are decent and good. Is she better than Trump, yes, but I know there is still another option for someone who not only is better than Trump, but a person who cares about the ideas I care about, and has spent his ENTIRE life pushing progress and the liberal agenda. His name is Bernie Sanders.
So I talked a little about how I admire and support those individuals who want and feel obligated and empowered to vote for someone they ACTUALLY want as President. So why does it also scare me? Well the potential issue is Trump. He is the wild card. Hilary is REFUSING, for whatever the irresponsible reason is, to admit she NEEDS the youth vote, and the other Democrats who don’t want her, to vote for her. She needs all of our votes to beat Trump. The polls are never set in stone, but let’s all Wake up and realize the national polls show Trump only behind by as little as 1%... That is not only a terrifying prospect, but she has an investigation by the FBI that will put her under even more attacks. He is not even close to being done attacking her. Now I agree with her and everyone, his attacks are idiotic and sexist, but in the end that doesn’t matter if they work sadly. Yes it is a miserable day that we live in a country that would allow bigoted and sexist comments influence in a positive manner, but the point I am making is that we might be headed that way.
If Hilary wins the nomination, will I be voting for her in November? I unfortunately still haven’t completely decided. I always thought I would, and still leaning that I would take almost ANYONE to prevent Trump. But am I willing to give up on my principles? I still need to decide maybe what my toughest principles are. Am I willing to risk a terrible reign of a Fascist so that I can remind myself I stuck to the ideals that I want my country to be run? Are my feelings about money and corruption within politics, the caring of the environment, and trying to take the country back from the rich and powerful, worth fighting for, or worth compromising? Should I take the standard Democratic approach and say that I am willing to compromise a LOT just to “try” to prevent something terrible from happening? Wish I had the answers to these questions. It will be a very troubling Summer and Fall for me. I care about our country and the people who live here. More than most people it seems. So in the end, is it worth risking Fascism for people who would not compromise to help me in return?
I am still hoping for something crazy at the DNC in July. Despite MSNBC admitting they will LIE on air on June 7th that Hilary has won the nomination, I will hope people do not fall for their trap. Trump vs Hilary… Money vs Money… The Elite vs Elite… Here’s to hoping I am wrong about our future.
