It is no news to anyone reading this I have been a supporter for Bernie Sanders. His platform of real progressive policies that wants the government to finally start working for the people instead of the rich and corporations, has been an inspiration to this country. This was not the year to make the drastic push in progressive values, though. This movement did do something though. The revolution may not have the leader to lead the most powerful position in the world, but it did create MILLIONS of individuals who now remember/formed the ideals they want from our country. They will be motivated by this year. Bernie stood for more than just being President, something I think was COMMONLY overlooked by people in both the media and members supporting Hilary. They believed it was a movement of thinking too big and nothing beyond those ideas and no way to make it happen. They were/are wrong.
The revolution has created a HUGE influx in people running for local offices throughout the country. People that can make the little changes that help the real people of this country. Those people judging us forget that an organization of Progressive Change Campaign Committee was created to work on getting very important seats to elect REAL progressive politicians. The thing they always forget is that the movement was INSPIRING, not only just to vote for him but CHANGE congress to be one that actually cares, and wants real progressive values. Those things will continue, hopefully, and we will see more change from the bottom. Progressives may have lost this election, but there is always a chance for the next one. We can change Congress to start working on dismantling the system that favors the rich and disregards the rest.
Today Bernie made his official endorsement of Hilary Clinton. It is not too surprising considering the rumors that the two campaigns have been talking to each other on a daily basis since the California Primary. It was not surprising, similarly, it was after the FBI announcement they will not indict Hillary. After that news came out, the hope was gone. Despite the evidence that seemed to almost ensure they would indict her, the result is that she will not be charged with any crimes. We know the Republicans will fight tooth and nail to talk about it every chance they get anyways. Bernie endorsed her because no matter how the result was reached, predisposed or not, the results show her with more votes and he understands that. It is something that still astonishes me, but the facts are facts (unless you’re a Republican… BURN haha!).
What does this mean? This means she, and more so the Democratic Platform, have adopted many of the Real progressive ideas he, and us, were fighting for. Obviously they both could go back on their word and just continue things as usual, and maybe likely to be the case, but the language at this moment is for progress. It is Not that he thinks she is the best candidate that could be the nominee, but most DEFINITELY better for Democrats and Progressives than an America run by Trump. This is a clear move that despite being prideful, and passionate, and inspirational, there is a real threat to the safety and stability of our country, and that threat is a Reality TV star. This was a move of conceding he could not beat the money to become President, but he also knows his message has started the change.
He had choices to endorse the other 3rd party candidates who ABSOLUTELY have more in collective values than Hillary, but that would be futile. I think we all know realistically that even though Independents make up most of the votes in November, the 2 party system is too ingrained in our system to allow a legitimate chance for a third party candidate; and would just result in the country voting for Trump. This was a move to work hard at fighting against a man who cares of nothing but himself, and would almost unquestionably lead our country into despair. Am I enthusiastic for the news? No. Am I stunned? No. Am I disappointed? Maybe, but that is not more persuading than the fear and frustration that this country has a decent chance of being run by a bigoted, racist, sexist, fool with a god complex. I will still be upset at the entire situation the DNC created to favor one candidate, and the media helping that agenda. She is not the candidate that pushes any progress beyond a couple social issues. But in the end the concessions, at least on paper, by Hillary and the Democratic Platform have made gives me hope that even if she won’t make any change, those we elect into Congress might actually fight for it. We cannot allow someone like Donald Trump to have the power he seeks.
I will concede my personal issues with Hillary Clinton from now to endorse her; even with my insignificant non-existent influence haha. In my own mind I have come to terms my hope for change is subdued. It may be the one thing that drives people crazy, but in the end we MUST vote for the lesser of 2 evils. To elaborate, let me clarify I do not think Hillary is evil. She does intend on being compassionate for the people in this country, she just doesn’t have what I would call a great history of supporting the policies and ideas that actually accomplish that goal. Intent may not be the biggest thing if the result is less that optimal, but I will take intent for good, than the obvious disregard for core human values, and policy ideas that will abolish this country. I will vote for Hillary Clinton in November. I will also use my time to investigate the politicians in my area to make sure I vote for the most progressive of those candidates as well, because we will not create a revolution with Hillary, but we may get one from Bernie inside Congress if we give him other people to work and fight with. #FeelTheBern
