Let’s look at the last 6 months and investigate how the DNC and Media has been approaching Bernie Sanders. At the beginning he was little threat to the front runner Hillary. This meant little to no press coverage of anyone else from the Democratic side. This is not all that shocking when looking at those original numbers showing no one had a chance. Slowly though, Bernie Sanders has built steam for his candidacy. So high in fact, that he did just tie Hillary in Iowa. He did all of this without getting the coverage that Hillary gets. It at one point late last year was as high as 14 times more coverage of Hillary over Bernie. This is a tremendous amount of time that is spent on the person who already has 20+ years of name recognition. She needs none of that media time to be the favorite from the party. Even with Bernie rising in the polls they don’t acknowledge him to any real extent on cable media coverage.
Monday night brought an exciting night. On the Democrats side we saw a dead heat tie between Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton. It was a crazy and eventful charge from the back by Bernie to bring the final down to around 0.2% or 0.3% difference. Smaller than a standard deviation of error. This means that just a few miss counts of just a few people may have actually shifted the state for Bernie. This is somewhat disheartening. This was a state, in my opinion, a state Bernie kind of needed to build more momentum. But this is no doubt a decent start, but more work will need to be done. Last week Trump decided to skip the debate done by Fox as a rebellion against the "attacks" he received from Megyn Kelly. This is my interpretation of the reasoning, and the outcome from that "demonstration."
First lets look as to why Trump would want to skip this debate right before Iowa votes towards the GOP candidates. I believe he did feel threatened and attacked the last time Megyn asked him questions. She asked him a question in one of the first debates about his previous words against women. She asked a legitimate question, asking about why he believes women should vote for him. I had the privilege to attend the Bernie Sanders Rally in St. Paul, MN last night on 1/26. The experience started off with long line to park. It was a pleasant realization that he had built such large presence here in Minnesota. Event parking was as expensive as it gets over by the Xcel Energy Center. $15 just to park. It seemed like a very small price to pay to get a chance to see and hear from Bernie directly. We stood in a line that had snaked in the skyway across Kellogg Blvd. Then the wait started. In 40 minutes our line had moved just 15 feet. I started to feel disheartened at the missed opportunity to see the man I wished to see. It seemed people were registering at the entrance, I assumed to gather more data for the campaign. The problem came that the internet site used to gain entrance was down. Too many people were there for Bernie that it had crashed the site. Again encouraging, but also disheartening that this trip may not result in seeing Bernie.
This day 6 years ago Citizens United won a Supreme Court case of suing the Federal Election Commission for having restrictions of corporate spending on government elections. The act that was overturned was the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. It was an obvious act that prevented corporations and unions from paying for media ads that would mention any candidates while preceding any elections. This is essentially just made sure the rich corporations weren’t allowed to buy ads that would promote their agenda and no one else’s. Simple really, they would not be allowed to BUY the interests of the people running for any government office. It was official from that point that politicians would be bought by companies to do their bidding.
This post is to talk about some of the reasons I will be voting for Bernie Sanders to get the Democratic nomination to go against the GOP. Bernie Sanders is essentially in a 2 way race with Hilary Clinton. Needless to say, he had to come from the back this entire race. Hillary not only is a huge name recognition, but Bernie is also more unknown than most. This is probably because he hasn’t actually been an elected Democrat but an Independent. I admire his history of standing as Independent and not aligning himself with the 2 party system we currently live in. It allowed him to feel no pressure by a party to do what he believed, and what the people of his districts wanted. This has given him a large number of years working for the normal people, and allowing himself to think outside the “establishment.”
This is my opinion on the issues surrounding the 2nd amendment that the Right likes to so strongly hold on to. They will fight to the end of the world to protect this “right”, because once again, they have been bought by the NRA and gun manufacturers to keep spreading the fear and propaganda that increase gun sales. They do it for money. But we should first understand what the 2nd amendment says. It is as follows… A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I just watched a video from TYT Politics (Click here for video) that may have restored my faith for future generations. A group of high school students were waiting in line, in the cold, to a Donald Trump event. They were there to protest the event and to possibly cause a disruption. They shouted and yelled from in the line, and were very willing to talk to the reporter. He talked to them about the things Trump has been saying and their responses. They truly could see right through the Hate and Fear he tries to spread. They were also fairly respectful not to attack his supporters, but to note that they were obviously getting influenced by the lies being spread. They were enthusiastic and fun to see. The fact that some kids were willing to stand in the cold to enter an event they knew they would get kicked out of, is inspiring for the future. I am happy to see this! It is also a nice turn from the video posted about another interview in that line, where a woman claimed that Obama was not born in the USA, and was working with ISIS and Muslims to take down the USA, and that he was creating a “new world order.” It is truly crazy how some people allow themselves to get so involved into these ideas and not truly think logically or rationally. But the kids show a future that is much more likely to fight, and to learn, and to push knowledge. First time I can say I saw something from a Trump rally that made me smile!
In Trump’s newest ad, he expresses his views on the immigrant problem he has with this country and how he feels we should not allow any Muslims to enter the country. I decided I would take some time to do some Fact checking, yes Right-wingers, those things people check to make sure what someone is saying/showing is actually true or just made up. I know the GOP party is really good at denying facts, but I respect things that are proven in this world. Like Global Climate Change??? How can you still deny it??? But I digress.
The biggest critique is that this movement receives, is that it makes it seem that only Black lives have been effected by the issues in this country. To be fair, the foundation of that criticism is legit, that not only do black kids and their families get effected by troubling issues, we all do. But I will say without a DOUBT, there is not a proportional effect the way the media and general public views black individuals to white individuals. Some of the biggest movements come to support awareness of unarmed black men being shot or being abused by the authorities in this country. This is a major concern, because while looking into these cases it seems that these people are shot because of only their skin color. They disrespected an authority while also being black. Disrespecting a police officer is NOT a crime. That should never constitute the reasoning behind shooting them dead. We see multiple issues where unarmed men are killed instead of just apprehended and that is unacceptable. I don’t view all cops badly, I have said and will say again the problem is the system. We train people to go out and not trust anyone and to take physical action into your own hands whenever you don’t get the result you want immediately.
