Monday night brought an exciting night. On the Democrats side we saw a dead heat tie between Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton. It was a crazy and eventful charge from the back by Bernie to bring the final down to around 0.2% or 0.3% difference. Smaller than a standard deviation of error. This means that just a few miss counts of just a few people may have actually shifted the state for Bernie. This is somewhat disheartening. This was a state, in my opinion, a state Bernie kind of needed to build more momentum. But this is no doubt a decent start, but more work will need to be done.
Thinking back to 2008 when Obama shocked the world, it was Iowa that really made it happen. He won in a very respectable margin there, and that set the stage to move forward. He was also already Very highly backed by minorities. This time around the minorities seem to just go to Hilary. I wish the general public would be more involved with understanding the history and policies of the candidates. It is Bernie who has spent 40+ years fighting for minority rights. In college he was even arrested in Chicago for participating in a demonstration for African American rights. He is FOR the minorities. Name recognition though is very hard to fight against when you are still an old white guy. He will need to get his message and history of always supporting those of other races, and other religions, and of different sexual orientation. He is the guy that has spent his whole career fighting for people, not corporations. This will be a tight race I hope. I want to see real progressive views pushed forward. Let’s actually get closer to how other Western developed countries are, and move more Left. The world has set forth a history of becoming more liberal, but here we stand further right than we were 8 years ago. Also O’Malley has finally dropped out, and will probably trying to get in as a viable VP candidate.
For the Republicans it was finally a defeat for Donald Trump. His antics of not going to the last debate most likely had a decent effect in Iowa. He had no real plan for the state, and the record shows he put in very little work there. The “winner” has lost. He always talks about losers, I wonder if he will finally take a piece of humble pie… Doubtful since people with his level of Ego and money never let anything bring them down. He has not gone away but it does show his Mortality. He does need to put in Some work to get the nomination. Ted Cruz took a 4% win over Trump in Iowa Monday night. To me it did not seem like a crazy idea that Ted might win. He had clearly set himself up as the number 2 candidate.
Ted scares me just as much as Trump, so it is still not that positive to me. It is also not a real surprise because Iowa does consistently have more Evangelical members deciding the Republican winner there. Ted Cruz stands on a clear emphasis on the Bible. He is probably the most religious candidate, and that also scares me since it is so clear, religion is not to be connected to the State. I also only get more fired up because of the certain parts of religion many stand on for politics are the parts of oppression, fear and hate. When the true idea behind Christianity is the New Testament that clearly wants people to be accepting, helpful and kind. But I digress… But that large religious market would go to Ted and that is why he won. He will make momentum on this win.
The other big winner is Marco Rubio. He came in a solid 3rd. This is large for him because he clearly puts himself as a viable candidate by being the real Establishment guy left. Once people such as Christie and Jeb Bush and John Kasich and Rick Santorum drop out, those votes will flow to Rubio. The GOP will still have to decide about whether they let a loose Cannon like Cruz or Trump be their guy, or someone who they know they can control like Rubio. This will be the start of the end for those other candidates. This is clearly a 3 man race.
There have and will continue to be some allegations of cheating, but I will not confirm or deny any of them until real investigations may be done. The point is that Democrats will have a race that may be really tight as we move forward. The GOP will also have the field even more out between Trump and Cruz, with Rubio on their heels. No matter what this year has already proven to bring an interesting election year. I am very saddened to say I am unable to help my candidate Bernie Sanders on Super Tuesday because I have to be out of town for a work meeting. I hope all of those people that think like I do go out and Caucus on March 1st. We need to show Minnesota stands for progress! We want change and will stand tall to our beliefs. I hope I can at least convince a few more people to go that may not have. If I can do that then I have accomplished my vote even without being there. I would be GLAD to talk to anyone that may have questions about who they should support. I would love dialogue to help you all discover your beliefs. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Go out and participate on March 1st and GO BERNIE!!!! #MN4BERNIE #FEELINGTHEBERN
