This is my opinion on the issues surrounding the 2nd amendment that the Right likes to so strongly hold on to. They will fight to the end of the world to protect this “right”, because once again, they have been bought by the NRA and gun manufacturers to keep spreading the fear and propaganda that increase gun sales. They do it for money. But we should first understand what the 2nd amendment says. It is as follows…
A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
By investigating this phrasing you see the iconic “right to bear Arms”. The phrase that keeps people holding their guns tight and yelling at any regulation of guns. You will see that these people will Conveniently ignore/forget/don’t know (because let’s face it, most people just believe something without actually have the knowledge of the facts) the first part of the amendment. The significant part that states “a well-regulated Militia.” Hmmmm, almost seems like there should always be consideration for regulation of guns, who should have them, and then once they have them; they should be organized and regulated to not misuse guns. This is a HUGE purposeful omission when Politicians and Media members talk about the 2nd amendment. They want to ignore that part because it supports actual efforts to not let all guns out into the public and hope they don’t do bad things with them. I want you to think about the fact that in this country we had more mass shootings, defined as 4 or more people shot, than we had days in 2015. We had over 8,000 murders in 2014. We had over 180,000 robberies involving firearms. When you look at those facts, do you see well-regulated Militia? Do you see a well-regulated Militia that is holding a Federal building hostage in Oregon, by LITERALLY threating cops and law enforcement with guns if they try to do their job, because these “men” are doing something ILLEGAL? I hope none of you give into this absurdity.
Now, do I recognize that guns are something that make us unique in the United States? Absolutely. Do I recognize guns can be used for a lot of fun and perfectly safe things? Absolutely, I enjoy shooting trap and target shooting, and I acknowledge that hunting is a historic part of American culture. I also recognize guns exist for 1 purpose. To kill. They may do other things, but their existence/invention is for 1 thing, and 1 thing only. KILLING. I would think it is common sense that we should regulate and do something to control, and minimize the amount of an item that exists only to kill things from getting into the hands of people who wish to do harm. I acknowledge there is no way to remove the Sea of guns we have in this country. The numbers of guns in citizen’s hands are well over 200 million firearms. That is more and 2/3 of adults (men and women combined). We will never be able to prevent gun violence completely when there are so many in public, we will never be able to control it all. BUT, I believe as people who have compassion, we should try to prevent as much crime and death as we can for the future.
In this country we have more gun violence than any other country in the entire world by a WIDE margin. I also know that the actual people of this country do want some reasonable gun control. Polls have Proven the vast majority of Americans want background checks on any gun sales and that people on the Terrorist watch list should not be able to buy guns. The polls, which there are multiple, show 80%+ of all people, most polls even show over 70% of Republicans even agree, we should make those regulations. The details of some of those polls below. We deem people so dangerous we won’t let them fly in an airplane, but hey, if they want a gun we will sell them any kind because of the lax laws we have now. Now the question is why, if a vast majority of people in the country want these laws, don’t we have the laws? Politicians spread propaganda and lie to the American people, making it seem that people don’t want these laws. They do this to “defend” their stances of doing NOTHING to prevent the gun violence in this country, while they line their pockets with Millions of dollars from NRA and gun manufacturers.

To emphasize the effect of the propaganda of the Right-wing media and politician members there was an interesting poll result. A poll asked people across the country if they felt like Obama had done “too much”, “right amount” or “too little” with gun control in this country. This was PRIOR to his recent Executive Orders. The polls show that 39% said he had done “too much” gun control. I have one question to you all. What was it? I’m waiting… Oh that’s right, he has done no changes to gun control or gun rights in this country prior to his recent orders. The Right-Wingers have convinced almost 40% that he was controlling them too much, when in fact he has done no real action, something I do judge him on. They are LYING right to the face of the American people. It seems more than ever that right-wing/republican voters are driven, not by facts or knowledge, but by emotions and “gut feelings.” I am not going to say that it can’t sometimes go against the left as well, but if this current presidential election proceedings have proven anything, it is that the Right is driven by FEAR. The same people who are so set on calling Left-wingers “weak”, are the same people who make all of their policies and laws based on fearing the future, fearing Muslims (which once again is EXACTLY what terrorists want), fearing the government, fearing other races, and fearing of ANY change.
To also speak of Obama’s recent Executive Orders, we hear a lot of the right yelling about gun rights and that these orders are infringing on the constitution. Never mind these are the same people who defend cops who kill unarmed black men, support the NSA gathering data on everyone without a warrant, and support trying to restrict access into to this country based on Religion. THOSE are all Unconstitutional. They all impede the rights of individuals. But they don’t care of those rights, just the one that says, I can buy a gun, no matter what type of gun, or ammo. No matter if I am a convicted violent criminal, I don’t care. So the hypocrisy of always claiming to care about the constitution is a JOKE. Also when investigating the orders you see they are directly relevant to the info I said earlier. The fact of the matter is, the VAST majority of people want background checks for All gun sales. The fact that the orders essentially just state that we will just enforce the laws we have already and make sure they do prevent violent bad people from getting access to weapons, is almost the Absolute smallest thing we could do, to at least pretend to the world, that we care our civilians die to gun violence at an ALARMING rate.
In the end I leave with an argument against the rhetoric against gun control we hear constantly. “Bad people will still get guns.” You are right, some bad people will still get guns, and they will use them too. But the statistics show that over the last 20 years we have prevented 2.1 million gun sales to convicted felons. Now, not all those guns would have committed crimes, but to say it didn’t prevent Countless lives is a joke. Bill O’Reilly claims that gun violence is not an epidemic, because of percentages. I said earlier we had more than 8,000 murders in 2014. Yes that is a tiny fraction compared to the 320+ million people in the USA. But that is 8,000 families devastated. I would impose these laws if it saved just a few of those people, because people’s lives should matter. That 8,000 also does not Actually represent the amount of people’s deaths we experience to guns in the USA. It does not include the COUNTLESS accidental deaths to guns, and the suicides committed with these guns. Let’s also look into that 8,000 in respect to how we view that number of lives in to reaction of other policies. If you take all of the people who died on 9/11 and the people who have died to Muslim terrorists since then, then add the Americans that died while invading Iraq. That number still is not to the amount of people that died in 2014 alone. Those numbers linked to Terrorism have caused us to invade Iraq, and kill over 100,000 people in that country, we have been bombing Syria and Iran and Afghanistan, and in the process killing COUNTLESS civilians. We were willing to use TRILLIONS of dollars, and more and more money today to fight against them. Never mind that you are more than 5x likely to be shot and killed by a Domestic Right-Wing terrorist than any Muslim terrorist. But 8,000 deaths in America is not an “epidemic”???? We shouldn’t do anything about it???? How disgusting. I will give Bill a little credit, in the same segment he did concede that these Executive Orders are reasonable… Seems counterintuitive for him, but I guess we’ll take a win for Reason when we can get one.
I just want people to realize that guns are a problem. I will make no claim that there is a solution we can have that will prevent all violent gun crime in this country. But what if we didn’t have to accept a mass shooting for EVERY DAY in a year? What if we could prevent the deaths of a few more thousand people every year? Why is that so upsetting? Don’t let the money in politics convince you that guns are all you need to prevent gun crime. Statistics show people who have defensive firearms have almost no chance to defend themselves anyways. They never protect themselves, and are FAR more likely to cause an accidental death of themselves or a family. Those are facts. Having regulation could save you or a family member’s life one day. Why is that so hard to consider? Thank you for your time.
