First, I would like to apologize for my absence. I hope someone out there seemed to care that I have not had a post in a while. But that might be slightly optimistic on my part. Either way I am sad I have not taken the time to put more out there. I will say my goal for myself and this blog is to try to give out real information and offer my interpretation and opinions on the things going on within our Political system. I won’t say my opinions are universal and they can be controversial. I know I have had battles between the Hilary supporters out there. They think Bernie supporters are not being fair to Hilary. I will go further into this issue in another post I am planning for this week. For this post I want to stay back on the campaign of Bernie Sanders and the possibility of him getting the nomination.
Let’s get a few things straight right away. I was extremely disappointed and saddened by the results on March 15th. This was a huge blow to the campaign and it may be too large to come back from. I’ll admit I was worried it was all over. To be fair it is now more likely Hilary will win the nomination. It KILLS me to say that. I will support anyone that gets the Democratic nomination and runs against Trump or Cruz, but let me be completely straightforward, and say I will be GREATLY disappointed with a Hilary Presidency. There is still some hope though in the Bernie campaign. It will not be easy from this point on. It will require most states to support Bernie over Hilary. Some will need to be by large margins such as Easter weekend. Where he absolutely demolished her in all the states. Naturally her campaign and the media, conveniently some of her largest donors, all said these states were “obviously” going to Bernie. That is COMPLETELY false. Hawaii and Alaska had basically NO knowledge of how the people there would vote. And in Washington it was still very much a toss-up. In the end though he CRUSHED her with wins of 40%+ in each.
Does this mean he will win the nomination? That is really the big question. The answer is basically, we don’t know. There is a lot of new information and states coming up that will shape this Primary season. There are some downsides for both campaigns. First Bernie clearly has the momentum. He needs some more big states to solidify that momentum but with Wisconsin happening tomorrow, he might have a chance right before New York to maybe steal a big state from her. On the other side we see that there are only 2 states left with Caucuses verses Primaries. This is not in Bernie’s favor. I think it shows that once people can be informed, and for some that only happens on the day of the voting, they support the guy with the history and record to prove he has been, and always will stand for the normal people and doesn’t care about what the top 1% thinks of him.
He keeps getting his support with all of his free events he is hosting throughout the country. One of the best things I have ever seen was a speech in which a bird flew on stage next to him. The whole crowd cheered. Then something even more impressive happened. That bird then flew and sat on the actual podium Bernie was standing at. It is almost as if Nature itself has realized it is only Bernie Sanders that actually cares about the environment and will not allow the fossil fuel industry to continue its destruction. This is in stark contrast to the route we see from Hilary. The people still seem to support her even though they don’t get many rally chances with her because she is hosting $1000+ entry fee fundraiser events. Instead of speaking to the people, she speaks to the richest in the country to try to get money from them.
Now the media did an "OK" job with representing his success. They acknowledged it was overwhelming and that is great, but as I said they dismissed it. They said things like these are mainly White communities and he still can't appeal to minorities. I would say yes Washington may fall under that. I would also mention though that "Minority" does not ONLY apply to Black voters... Hawaii is the only state in the country where White is not the majority of the residents. If only it was required that "news" organizations were obligated to release their history of financially supporting the Clinton's over the years. NBC and CNN are owned by giant media corporations such as Comcast and Time Warner, the same type of organizations Bernie Sanders wants to go after... Convenient isn't it?
I never knew I would go into this whole ordeal being the person I am now. Hannah can attest even she is somewhat fed up with some of my rants. I know I must keep myself contained while out in public and around others I know. Luckily I have this outlet. I will say I do not want to sit behind and not feel the disappointment I currently do about our country. We live in a country that was once built on the ideals I wish we could go back to. I understand there has been many ups and downs throughout history. We had slavery, we have kept people subdued that we did not understand with the LGBT community. Sometimes we get through. Sometimes we move the country forward and that does give me some hope. I just wish people had the understanding that we have an opportunity to really change the system so that not only some of the social injustices in this world get fixed, but the economic and global issues as well. Taking money out of politics and keeping politicians accountable for who they represent will allow for some movement. We don’t have to give into the Military supply companies who are CONSTANTLY pushing war agendas on politicians so they can reap the benefit. The gun manufacturers who are now catering cartoons to convince small children to want guns.
I think the worst feeling I know I have from this election is the clear showing that we have a lot of people in this nation who have no sense of compassion or care for ANYONE that is not exactly like them. Whether it be the pushing Christian faith into all of our lives, or pushing for more violence and policies that have proven to create more terrorism and hate against us, or just the idea of not wanting an entire group of 1.5+ billion people to be allowed in our country because a TINY fraction are using a religion for evil. Conveniently these are the same people who ignore the fact mass shootings are FAR more likely to happen from a Right-Wing Christian nut-job than a Muslim terrorist. These are the people who live in FEAR. The Right-Wingers in this world have done something I am surprised actually worked. They convinced large amounts of people that to be strong is to be afraid of everyone different from themselves. This refers to the LGBT community, other races, and other religions. They are afraid, and so that makes them strong?
I have hope. Not as much as I wish. I will admit some fear that this election year will result in the same old same old as the best case scenario. That is a very depressing thought. I do have hope though with an old Jewish grandpa man named Bernie Sanders. He is the person I believe has a chance to change the mindset of this country to try to attain a higher morality. Even being elected he may not be able to accomplish the change this country needs. Though if he was, I would feel he would have the only real chance of starting the movement for change. The thing we all wanted from Obama but never got. We finally got the chance now to get the next step. Obama has done some good things, so now let’s build upon it. I hope those people in the states to come understand that we need a REAL Progressive that will fight to the end for positive change for the people in the country. #FEELTHEBERN
